Essex Road Placemaking

We transformed an under-utilised and unloved public space outside of a medical centre along Essex Road to invite people to use the space and socialise. This was an act of placemaking in an existing area of the pavement with seating, rather than an action in the carriageway. Even though a space may have seating, it still doesn’t mean that people will feel comfortable and welcome to use it - brightening this area and adding funky designs helped!
